【Introduction】
As one of six major emerging industries in Taiwan, biomedical production has aggressively expanded over the past few years thanks to long-term efforts paid by the government and local insiders. With the global population steadily growing along with technology continuously advancing, the industry on the island posted annual revenue of NT$298.6 billion in 2015 for a 3.5% increase over a year ago, with 44.5% of which, an equivalent of NT$133 billion, generated by medical instruments and supplies. Presently, the number of related makers stands at 1,041.
To say Taiwan’s biomedical industry has entered a new era of growth is not overstated, as the Cabinet in response to demographic changes has just promulgated a new industrial upgrading policy in 2017, with an aim to further bolster the industry’s development by incubating more professional talents, reforming related regulations, helping introduce innovative technologies and integrating resources to better upgrade it.
Presently, Taiwan’s biomedical corridor has effectively extended from Chupei, a fast-developing city in Hsinchu County, northern Taiwan, which is home to local medical instrument and supplies makers, to the southern region covering Tainan and Kaohsiung, where a large number of medical centers and considerable R&D resources combine to provide the sector a solid basis of proliferating.
To allow an easy access for buyers from all over the world to Taiwan’s prospering biomedical industry in the southern region, as well as enhance exchange with local insiders, Economic Daily News is going to hold the Kaohsiung Biomedical Technology Expo from Set. 27 through 30 in Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. The trade fair features six highlighted exhibition zones, namely “Biotech”, “Aesthetic Medicine”, “Medical Supplies and Services”, “Chinese Herbal Medicine Applications”, “Innovation and Startups” and “Food Safety,” and is expected to generate tremendous business opportunities for participants.
